Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and journey to the Cultural Triangle
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport near Colombo and meet your private chauffeur for the journey inland to the Sigiriya region. Settle into your luxury resort, surrounded by tropical greenery and the landscapes of Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle.
Enjoy a relaxed afternoon at the resort or take in the surrounding countryside before dinner.
Overnight: Luxury resort in Sigiriya.
Day 2: Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Dambulla
Begin the day with a visit to Sigiriya Rock Fortress, an extraordinary fifth-century royal citadel rising above the surrounding jungle. Explore its ancient gardens, frescoes and archaeological remains, with panoramic views from the summit for those undertaking the climb.
Continue to the Dambulla Cave Temple, a remarkable complex of Buddhist shrines decorated with paintings and statues.
Overnight: Luxury resort in Sigiriya.
Day 3: Kandy, sacred heritage and culture
Travel south through Sri Lanka's countryside towards Kandy, the historic hill capital. On arrival, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the island's most important Buddhist sites.
Enjoy a walk beside Kandy Lake and, depending on timing, visit the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya. The evening can include a traditional Kandyan cultural performance, subject to the schedule.
Overnight: Luxury hotel in Kandy.
Day 4: Nuwara Eliya, into the tea country
Journey into the central highlands, where the landscape transforms into rolling green hills, misty valleys and tea plantations.
Visit a tea estate and factory to discover how Sri Lanka's celebrated Ceylon tea is produced. Continue to Nuwara Eliya, a picturesque hill town known for its cooler climate, colonial-era architecture and landscaped gardens.
Overnight: Luxury hotel or boutique retreat in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 5: Ella, mountain scenery and hidden valleys
Continue towards Ella, one of Sri Lanka's most scenic destinations. The journey offers beautiful views of tea-covered slopes, waterfalls and mountain valleys.
Explore the iconic Nine Arch Bridge and enjoy a gentle walk or viewpoint visit, depending on weather and fitness. Guests seeking a more active experience can consider Little Adam's Peak.
A scenic train journey through the hill country may be incorporated if the relevant service is operating on the travel date and the timetable suits the itinerary. Otherwise, travel by private vehicle.
Overnight: Luxury resort in Ella.
Day 6: Yala, into the wild
Travel south towards Yala National Park, where the scenery changes from cool mountain landscapes to dry forests and open scrubland.
Arrive at your luxury safari lodge and, subject to arrival time and park availability, embark on a guided jeep safari. Yala is known for its diverse wildlife, including elephants, crocodiles, birds and the elusive leopard.
Overnight: Luxury safari lodge near Yala.
Day 7: Departure from Sri Lanka
After breakfast, depart for Bandaranaike International Airport near Colombo by private transfer.
The drive is substantial, so an appropriately timed departure flight is essential. For a more relaxed final day, consider adding a night in the south or near the airport rather than scheduling a tight same-day connection.
